Helping patients achieve overall wellness is what drives Michelle.
Michelle attended Tulsa Community College, has 20 years of experience as a licensed cosmetologist in a medical spa setting, and most recently completed the Advanced Bodywork Program through Ankrum Institute.
She sees her work as a Craniosacral Specialist as one piece in the puzzle of helping LifeMotion patients get back in full motion.
Michelle’s Story
When her six-week-old daughter Luka couldn’t sleep through the night, Michelle searched for an answer. What she found changed her life which, in turn, led Michelle to join the LifeMotion team and learn the Ukulele—more on that in a bit.
“Luka would cry all the time,” Michelle remembers. “Then, I came across Leigh Ankrum and Craniosacral Therapy.”
Known as the baby whisperer, Ankrum got results for Michelle’s daughter on the first visit.
“We all store trauma in our bodies,” Michelle says. “Something kept Luka from finding peace until Leigh helped her relieve it.”
Seeing her daughter find a better sense of well-being through her experience with Ankrum intrigued Michelle. So much so that when the Ankrum Institute later began teaching the process, she knew studying Craniosacral Therapy was her path. Five hundred hours of study later, Michelle is a licensed massage therapist specializing in cranial sacral therapy today.
“I’m passionate about it because I want to help people,” Michelle says. “It’s satisfying seeing someone resolve their struggle.”
“No two bodies are the same,” Michelle adds. “Whether it’s a specific issue or maintaining a feeling of well-being, there’s a release when this therapy helps you activate the parasympathetic nervous system.”
When activated, the parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS) slows your heart and breathing rates. It also lowers blood pressure. Your body enters a relaxed state that aids in recovery. The more time spent in PSNS, the healthier you can become.
“Everyone gets something from time on the table,” Michelle says. “If their system is willing to go there, people leave different than they were before.”
As for that ukelele, Michelle blames it on time spent in Covid quarantine.
“I had to do something,” Michelle says. “I decided to teach myself how to play by watching YouTube videos.”
Her repertoire at one point grew to include “Over The Rainbow,” “Riptide,” and “Happy Birthday.” Unfortunately, there’s no plan to integrate her newfound musical skill into her sessions at LifeMotion—unless maybe you ask really nicely.
