Have you noticed you aren’t as quick to respond to a change in terrain when walking? How about when changing lanes while driving? You could be experiencing a loss in reaction time. Reaction time is the length of time it takes for a person’s nervous system to receive a stimulus, process it and then respond to it correctly. This skill is very important during sports, driving, emergency situations, and countless other activities of daily living. As we age, our reaction time naturally slows which can increase a risk for falls. Other medical conditions, such as Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, or concussions can also negatively impact a person’s reaction time.
Here at LifeMotion Physical Therapy and Balance Center, we use elements of neuromuscular training, therapeutic exercise, and unique equipment/tools to help improve your reaction time. We would love to team up with you to help reduce your fall risk or improve your athletic performance to get your life back in motion for the activities you love!
