People ask me what causes vertigo. Well, one of the most common causes of vertigo is BPPV. It stands for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.
It’s basically a mechanical issue in the vestibular system or known as the inner ear, where basically you have particles that are naturally housed in one area of your inner ear.
Those particles break off and they begin to float in what’s called the semicircular canals of your inner ear.
Well, when those particles begin to float, how the body recognizes that those particles are in a place where they’re not supposed to be is by a sensation of spinning, what we call vertigo.
So, people will describe it as the room is moving, or they’re moving. And sometimes this can make people nauseous, or even vomit at times.
It’s a benign issue, but it’s easily treated with positional maneuvers to move those particles out of the canals and back where they’re supposed to go.
